There are times when Christians need to correct each other, as well as correct non-Christians. That is because some falsehoods are dangerous and destructive. Paul tells Titus to rebuke liars who deny God by the way their doctrines and the way that they live. They were teaching things contrary to sound, or healthy, doctrine. Brian Watson preached this sermon on November 7, 2021.
false teachers
Sound Doctrine (1 Timothy 1:3-11)
Paul tells Timothy to remain in Ephesus and make sure people don’t teach a different message than the gospel. False teachers were obsessed with myths and genealogies, and they used the Old Testament the wrong way. Find out why we need to know the gospel, why we’re not saved by our obedience, but also why the moral law still matters.
Test the Spirits (1 John 4:1-6)
Pastor Brian Watson preaches a message on 1 John 4:1-6. How can we know if a message is from God or not? How can we determine who is a false teacher? The true message from God, the gospel, gets facts about Jesus right, whereas false teachers distort Jesus’ identity or his message. We need to know the Bible to be able to tell the difference.
Abide (1 John 2:18-27)
Pastor Brian Watson preaches a message on 1 John 2:18-27. This passage talks about those who are against the real Jesus (antichrists), what real Christians have (the anointing of the Holy Spirit), and the importance of following (abiding in) Jesus.
Declaring to You the Whole Counsel of God (Acts 20)
Pastor Brian Watson preaches a message on Acts 20 titled, “Declaring to You the Whole Counsel of God.” In this message, we see the importance of preaching and teaching the whole truth that God has revealed to us. The word of God brings life and health, but there are false teachers who are “speaking twisted things.” Leaders of churches need to protect the church by teaching truth and refuting lies. They also need to practice what they preach.
